  • Prince William has suggested that NHS staff need mandatory career breaks to combat burnout.
  • During a visit to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, he emphasised the need for prioritising the mental health of healthcare workers.
  • William drew on his own experiences as an air ambulance pilot and his work with NHS Charities Together.
  • He spoke with staff who shared their experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic, including the challenges of caring for patients and being separated from family.
  • He said unless there were “almost enforced breaks” in workers’ careers, “we’re never going to get to that point where you can look after their mental health”.
