Three main barriers to home ownership revealed in new survey
The hidden costs of buying a house
New research reveals that a third of renters aged 25 to 44 do not believe they will ever own a home.
The study, commissioned by the Building Societies Association (BSA), found 59 per cent of renters expected to be homeowners by this point in their lives.
Lack of job security is increasingly cited as a barrier to home ownership, alongside raising a deposit and mortgage affordability.
Despite some mortgage lenders easing their rules, these financial hurdles remain significant for many prospective buyers.
The BSA suggests that regulatory flexibility and a government focus on increasing housing supply are vital long-term solutions.
