Trump meets Scottish First Minister to talk whisky prices

  • First Minister John Swinney met President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to discuss Scotch whisky tariffs.
  • The primary objective of the meeting was to advocate for a better tariff deal, specifically the reduction or elimination of tariffs on Scotch whisky exports to the United States.
  • The 50-minute discussion took place ahead of President Trump's State Visit to the United Kingdom, with Mr Swinney confirming his attendance at the State Banquet.
  • During the meeting, Mr Swinney also raised the international situation, including the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Qatar.
  • Mr Swinney is undertaking a series of trade and political meetings in the United States to promote Scotland's interests.
