Eastern Australia has experienced its heaviest snowfall in decades, causing widespread floods, stranded vehicles, and power cuts.
Northern New South Wales received up to 40cm of snow, the most since the mid-1980s, and Queensland saw snow for the first time in 10 years.
Miriam Bradbury, a meteorologist at Australia's Bureau of Meteorology, said the weather phenomenon was “unusual” because of the volume and widespread nature of the snow.
The New South Wales State Emergency Service responded to over 1,455 incidents, including more than 100 stranded vehicles and damaged buildings.
Tens of thousands of homes were left without power, and several major flood warnings were issued across the affected regions.
