British couple feared execution during Taliban detention

Peter and Barbie Reynolds released from prison after being held for months by Taliban
  • Britons Peter and Barbie Reynolds have spoken out after being held by the Taliban in Afghanistan for over seven months without charge.
  • The couple, aged 80 and 76, were arrested on 1 February and endured a bewildering detention across 10 different prisons, including solitary confinement, never being told why they were held.
  • They described suffering significant health issues and fearing execution, with Mr Reynolds recalling being chained with murderers and rapists.
  • Despite their release, the couple said it remains a "mystery" why they were detained and subsequently freed.
  • The Reynolds lived in Afghanistan for 18 years, running education programmes, but have confirmed they will likely never return and have left behind their home and possessions.
