Tower of London reopens after crumble and custard protest
Activists throw custard at Crown Jewels display in Tower of London protest
Four people have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage after the Crown Jewels display case at the Tower of London was covered with fruit crumble and custard.
The group called Take Back Power claimed responsibility for the protest and said their aim is to campaign for higher taxes on the wealthy.
Activists displayed slogans such as “Democracy has crumbled - Tax the Rich” and shouted “Britain is broken. We’ve come here to the jewels of the nation to take back power”.
The Jewel House was temporarily closed for investigation but has since reopened, with Historic Royal Palaces confirming the Crown Jewels were not damaged.
This incident follows a previous protest by Take Back Power at the Ritz Hotel, where they emptied bags of manure to demand a permanent citizens' assembly.
