Watchdog told new trans guidance breaches human rights
Kemi Badenoch suggests transgender people use disabled toilets after Supreme Court ruling
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is facing criticism for its interim guidance on single-sex spaces, which some argue risks outing transgender people and violating their human rights.
The guidance follows a Supreme Court ruling stating trans women are not legally women under the Equalities Act, allowing their exclusion from single-sex spaces if deemed "proportionate".
Critics argue the EHRC guidance could force trans people to reveal their gender identity by avoiding certain facilities, potentially breaching their right to privacy.
They say there is a lack of clarity on the circumstances for excluding trans people from facilities and who is in charge of making such decisions.
There are calls for the EHRC to withdraw its guidance until a more comprehensive and inclusive approach is developed.
