Trump calls Melania ‘first lady’ to remind himself he is president
Trump accused of using ‘antisemetic’ slur during Iowa rally
President Donald Trump inadvertently disclosed his pet name for his wife, Melania Trump, while discussing military recruitment during a speech in Iowa.
Speaking in Des Moines on the eve of Independence Day, Trump said: “I’m saying ‘Good night, First Lady, my darling,’ because it reminds me that I’m president, that’s why.”
Melania Trump has made few public appearances recently, though she attended a military parade and visited a children's hospital, where she reportedly connected with patients over Taylor Swift, contrary to Trump's views.
The disclosure adds to ongoing speculation about the Trumps' marriage, with a biographer suggesting they are "separated" and lead "separate lives."
During the same Iowa speech, Trump also criticised Democrats, mocked Iran, discussed migrant worker policies, and reportedly used an antisemitic slur.
