Trump is deploying the National Guard to Memphis to combat crime
Trump sends National Guard to Memphis after DC takeover and eyes Chicago next
President Trump announced he is deploying the National Guard and other federal law enforcement resources to Memphis, Tennessee, to tackle crime.
The initiative, named the “Memphis Safe Task Force”, will involve the FBI, ATF, DEA, ICE, Homeland Security Investigations, US Marshals, and the National Guard, led by Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Trump compared this move to his previous deployment of federal forces in Washington, D.C., and noted that Memphis is a Democratic-led city within a Republican-controlled state.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, a Republican ally, expressed support for the task force, stating that the state's guardsmen and women were “honored to be part of this mission.”
Trump also indicated intentions to send federal resources to other cities, including Chicago, St. Louis, and New Orleans, despite facing resistance from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker regarding Chicago.
