MPs and peers are campaigning to prevent Donald Trump from addressing Parliament during his upcoming state visit to the UK, citing concerns about his respect for democracy.
Lord Foulkes of Cumnock and Labour MP Kate Osborne have written to the Lord Speaker and Commons Speaker, respectively, urging them to block Trump from speaking, mirroring a similar move during his first term.
Concerns stem from Trump's past comments about the UK, parliamentary democracy, NATO, and Ukraine, as well as his attitude towards the rule of law.
This comes as Trump confirmed his September visit, which would be his second state visit to the UK, following a personal invitation from King Charles.
While some Labour MPs previously opposed Trump addressing Parliament, the UK government's pursuit of a trade deal with the US has led to a more cautious approach.
