'It could be big trouble': Trump issues warning to Russia after Estonia incursion
Three Russian fighter aircraft illegally entered Estonian airspace for 12 minutes on Friday, prompting Estonia to summon a Russian diplomat to protest the "unprecedentedly brazen" incident.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated this was the fourth Russian airspace violation this year, but the first involving three fighter jets.
Estonia's Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur initiated consultations among NATO allies under Article 4, with the North Atlantic Council scheduled to discuss the incursion.
The Russian MIG-31 fighters, which had no flight plans, turned-off transponders, and no radio communication, were intercepted by Italian Air Force F-35 jets.
The incident, occurring shortly after Russian drones were downed over Poland, was labelled an "extremely dangerous provocation" by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, while Donald Trump said: “It could be big trouble.”
