UK to be hit by Trump tariffs this week after negotiations fall through
Donald Trump evades question about longterm price increases on auto imports after announcing new tariff
Downing Street has confirmed that the UK will be affected by US President Donald Trump's trade tariffs, starting this week, as hopes of securing an exemption before the April 2 deadline dwindle.
This comes as a setback for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who has been in “intense negotiations” with Mr Trump.
Business groups, including the BCC and FSB, are warning that over 60 per cent of their members will be directly or indirectly impacted by the tariffs.
The tariffs, set to be imposed on a wide range of goods, are causing anxiety in international markets.
Some experts are predicting a geopolitical shift as a result, with the UK, Canada, the EU, and Australia potentially forming closer trading partnerships.
