Rain and wind warnings in force ahead of Storm Amy’s arrival
Met Office warn to brace for ‘damaging’ winds as Storm Amy lands
Storm Amy, influenced by the remnants of Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda, is forecast to bring significant wet and windy weather to the UK this week.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for parts of Scotland, including Grampian, Highlands, and Strathclyde, effective from Friday into Saturday.
Gusts of wind are expected to reach 60 to 70mph more widely in the amber warning area, with potential for over 95mph in some regions.
Yellow weather warnings are also in place for areas of west and northwest Scotland and Northern Ireland, anticipating heavy rain and strong winds.
The storm poses risks of power cuts, damage to buildings, road closures, and flying debris, according to Met Office chief forecaster Neil Armstrong.
