Venice is reinstating its controversial entry fee for visitors, extending its application to 60 days in 2026, an increase from 54 days in 2025.
The charge, set at €5 when booked in advance or €10 if paid closer to the date, will be enforced on specific dates, mainly weekends, between 3 April and 26 July.
Introduced in 2024, the fee aims to manage the city's high volume of approximately 30 million annual tourists, most of whom are day-trippers, to prevent potential damage to its historic centre.
Venice is the first city globally to implement such a charge for day-tripper admission, with the primary goal of promoting sustainable tourism and deterring visitors on peak days rather than generating significant revenue.
Exemptions apply to various groups, including residents, workers, disabled individuals, those visiting residents, and overnight tourists, who are still required to register for their exemption.
