Venice entry fee to return from April

Tourists filmed surfing along canals in Venice
  • Venice is reinstating its controversial entry fee for visitors, extending its application to 60 days in 2026, an increase from 54 days in 2025.
  • The charge, set at €5 when booked in advance or €10 if paid closer to the date, will be enforced on specific dates, mainly weekends, between 3 April and 26 July.
  • Introduced in 2024, the fee aims to manage the city's high volume of approximately 30 million annual tourists, most of whom are day-trippers, to prevent potential damage to its historic centre.
  • Venice is the first city globally to implement such a charge for day-tripper admission, with the primary goal of promoting sustainable tourism and deterring visitors on peak days rather than generating significant revenue.
  • Exemptions apply to various groups, including residents, workers, disabled individuals, those visiting residents, and overnight tourists, who are still required to register for their exemption.
