‘Blagging’ may have taken place at Prince William birthday party, court told

The Prince of Wales's brother, the Duke of Sussex, is among seven high-profile individuals suing Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over alleged unlawful information gathering.
The group, which includes Sir Elton John and Baroness Doreen Lawrence, accuses ANL of activities such as hiring private investigators, 'blagging' private records, and accessing phone conversations.
ANL firmly denies the allegations, describing them as 'lurid' and 'preposterous', and is defending the legal action.
During a preliminary High Court hearing, lawyers for the claimants presented an invoice from 2003 related to the Prince of Wales's 21st birthday party, suggesting information was 'blagged'.
ANL is seeking to have parts of the cases thrown out ahead of an expected trial in January 2026, arguing some allegations are 'wholly unparticularised'.
