NYC mayoral contender mobbed trying to shoot campaign videos
NYC Mayoral contender Zohran Mamdani mobbed for selfies while shooting promo video
Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic Party's nominee for New York City mayor, is experiencing such high popularity that he is frequently mobbed by passersby, making it difficult to film campaign videos.
Mamdani, 33, gained national prominence after an upset victory over Andrew Cuomo in their party's primary last month.
He has cleverly turned the interruptions into an advantage, posting an amusing clip on Instagram and TikTok showing his struggles to film a promo due to constant public engagement.
Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, campaigns on making New York more affordable, pledging to increase taxes for the wealthy and stating there should be no billionaires in a fair society.
He faces opposition from incumbent Eric Adams, Republican Curtis Silwa, and potentially Andrew Cuomo, and has been criticised by Donald Trump, who called him a “communist lunatic” and threatened deportation.
