Sabalenka takes swipe at Anisimova after Wimbledon defeat
Iga Swiatek celebrates victory in Wimbledon women’s final
World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka has taken a swipe at Amanda Anisimova after their dramatic Wimbledon semi-final on Centre Court.
Sabalenka, who was defeated in three sets by Anisimova, was previously criticised for her sour grapes reaction following her defeat by Coco Gauff at June’s French Open final.
In a Wimbledon press conference, she said reporters would not see “that crazy person” who addressed them at Roland Garros, as she had taken “a bit more time before doing my media”.
However, she cited two incidents during the match that irked her: Anisimova celebrating a point prematurely and not apologising for a net-cord shot.
Anisimova, who will now face Iga Swiatek in the final, downplayed the incidents, saying of Sabalenka’s reaction to the early celebration: “I don’t really know what was the deal there.”
