Jose Mourinho declared he would "always be a blue" upon his return to Stamford Bridge as manager of Benfica for a Champions League match against Chelsea.
Mourinho, Chelsea's most successful manager despite being sacked twice, emphasised his mutual historical connection with the club, stating they helped each other become bigger.
He noted that Chelsea uniquely honours its past figures with displays like those in the Ted Drake Suite, unlike many other clubs that seem to want to delete history.
His return coincides with a sensitive period for current Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who is under pressure following three defeats in four matches.
Mourinho expressed support for Chelsea's current direction under Maresca, citing the club's recent Conference League and Club World Cup victories as building trust and confidence.
