Italian third-tier football club Crotone has been placed under judicial administration for one year following police findings of pervasive mafia infiltration.
The decision was made after prosecutors found "sufficient evidence" that the club had been subjected to intimidation and subjugation by local 'Ndrangheta Mafia clans over the last decade.
The 'Ndrangheta Mafia specifically infiltrated the club's security and ticketing operations, prompting the intervention.
Crotone, based in the southern Calabria region, will continue its sporting activities but under the supervision of court-appointed administrators.
The club stated it would collaborate with the administrators and denied any complicity or connivance by its shareholders or managers, while prosecutors aim to steer its economic activities back onto a legal path.
