Man United hire man with no football experience into top role
Ollie Watkins ‘heading Manchester United’s two-man striker shortlist’
Manchester United has appointed Mike Sansoni, formerly of the Mercedes F1 team, as their new director of data.
Sansoni, who has no prior football experience, contributed to eight world championship-winning seasons during his 11-year tenure at Mercedes F1.
His primary role will be to establish Manchester United as a data-led organisation, embedding predictive and AI-driven decision-making across the club.
Sansoni will report to chief executive Omar Berrada, and his appointment is known to co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe due to Ineos's minority stake in Mercedes.
In a separate appointment, Kirstin Furber, previously from Channel 4, has joined Manchester United as the new people director.
