Man United hire man with no football experience into top role

Ollie Watkins ‘heading Manchester United’s two-man striker shortlist’
  • Manchester United has appointed Mike Sansoni, formerly of the Mercedes F1 team, as their new director of data.
  • Sansoni, who has no prior football experience, contributed to eight world championship-winning seasons during his 11-year tenure at Mercedes F1.
  • His primary role will be to establish Manchester United as a data-led organisation, embedding predictive and AI-driven decision-making across the club.
  • Sansoni will report to chief executive Omar Berrada, and his appointment is known to co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe due to Ineos's minority stake in Mercedes.
  • In a separate appointment, Kirstin Furber, previously from Channel 4, has joined Manchester United as the new people director.
