Late-favourite emerges for new Rangers head coach position
Russell Martin bemoans 'story of our season' before being sacked by Southampton
Russell Martin is the leading candidate to become the new head coach of Rangers, following the sacking of Philippe Clement in February.
Martin, a former Rangers and Scotland defender, is reportedly finalising personal terms after accepting the position.
The potential appointment follows a series of major developments at Ibrox, including an American consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises securing a majority shareholding, and Kevin Thelwell starting as the new sporting director.
Martin was previously sacked by Southampton in December after a 5-0 defeat to Tottenham, despite securing promotion with them the previous season.
Other candidates considered for the Rangers head coach position included outgoing Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti and former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.
