Matt Fitzpatrick has accused PGA president Don Rea of bitterness during the Ryder Cup trophy presentation on US soil.
Rea's brief congratulatory message stated Europe “retained” the cup, which Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose found unheartfelt, as Europe had actually won it.
Fitzpatrick also deemed “offensive” Rea's suggestion that the hostile reception from US crowds was comparable to European fans in Rome two years prior.
The hostile crowd behaviour included a beer being thrown, hitting Rory McIlroy's wife, Erica; USA captain Keegan Bradley refused to condemn the fans.
Fellow European player Tyrrell Hatton expressed hope for a more respectful atmosphere at the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland, rather than a return of insults.
