Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is in an induced coma following urgent abdominal surgery after a serious injury during a match against Leicester City.
Awoniyi collided with a goalpost and, despite returning to the field, required surgery. He is currently recovering well.
The club defended owner Evangelos Marinakis' on-field confrontation with coach Nuno Espirito Santo after the match, stating it stemmed from concern for Awoniyi and frustration with the medical team's decision to allow him to continue playing.
Marinakis' actions were described as a demonstration of his care and investment in the team.
The club criticized media speculation and called for responsible reporting, emphasizing player welfare over commentary.
