This is why there are no female Minions

The bright yellow stars of this summer's hit film, Minions, are exclusively male. Now their creator Pierre Coffin has explained why his movie is unlikely to pass the Bechdel Test.

According to the French filmmaker, the creatures are so ridiculous he could not picture them as female.

"Seeing how dumb and stupid they often are, I just couldn’t imagine Minions being girls," he told the Wrap. Coffin added that Minions do not reproduce sexually which also means there do not have to be any female ones.

The male-dominated Despicable Me spinoff does star a female villain, Scarlet Overkill, voiced by Sandra Bullock.
