OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Set on one of the two one-way roads leading to the Old Town, the hotel is only a ten-minute walk to the Ploče Gate entrance. It's on the road closest to the city's beach, and an easy, pleasant walk into town, passing the Lazareti cultural centre and the area's best bakery. Banje Beach is just a few hundred yards away and it's only a ten-minute walk to the Mount Srd cable car.

By plane: direct flights from London to Dubrovnik take 2 hours 30 mins. The hotel is a 30-minute drive from the airport. There is free private parking on-site. Book flights to Dubrovnik.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Sophisticated minimalism runs throughout the hotel, especially in the light-filled public areas where the views of the Old Town and the island of Lokrum are allowed to shine. There's a hint of retro mid-century in the plush furnishings, all in pleasingly muted tones with the occasional dash of rich earthy colours.

THE FACILITIES

Service is highly professional yet warm and friendly. As expected of a five-star, there's a concierge, valet parking and room service, as well as four meeting rooms. Just beyond the spa is the private, deep-water bathing platform with a couple of enclosed areas for children.

Sensus is the place for fine dining Adriatic style, with grilled sea bass, homemade pasta and slow-cooked veal brisket. There's summertime beachside dining under stone arches at Prora, where you can tuck into octopus carpaccio and Dalmatian charcuterie and cheese. Expect large breakfasts at Salin and a laid-back atmosphere at Abakas Piano Bar.
