OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

This hotel is in an ideal location less than five minutes from both St Mark's Square and the Rialto, with its famous market. What's more, some of Venice's finest stores are just a coin's throw from the front door, but it's set back a little from the main throng, so you still feel secluded. Nearby is the Teatro La Fenice (a seven-minute walk).

By plane: direct flights to Venice from London take 2 hours. Take an airport boat (one hour) to reach the hotel, or a water taxi; the hotel has an entrance on the canal. Book flights to Venice.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The décor is sumptuous but understated, with velvet curtains and cushions in the public lounges and gilt mosaics on the floor of the corridors. Pleated fabric lampshades diffuse the light to create a romantic atmosphere in the evenings, while bookshelves of art books make you feel like you're in a luxury villa.

THE FACILITIES

The small team all have excellent language abilities, and if an easy translation of, say, an ingredient is not available, then they will turn to Google to find out. A porter will carry your bags to your room and come with extra coffee capsules on request. Facilities include a rooftop solarium.
