You're ideally located to explore the bustling harbour city of Galway and dramatic Irish coastline. Walk to Galway in 15 minutes to see the former medieval city walls; art lovers can peruse galleries in the Latin Quarter and if you're after a pint in a traditional Irish pub, there's plenty of choice, often with live folk music.

By plane: flights from Birmingham and Edinburgh to Shannon take 1 hour 15 minutes; and London to Shannon takes 1 hour 30 minutes. A taxi will take an hour to the hotel. Free on-site parking. Book flights to Shannon.

Akin to marmite, you will either love the predominantly pink and purple design features or you won't. Either way, the unique style can be appreciated - as can the live aquarium in the reception area, adding interest and a touch of the exotic. We loved the patterned wallpaper and leather sofas in the signature lounges - not overpowering, but uplifting.

The staff were on hand with tips on where to go when venturing out which was handy as we didn't know the area. From the local pub with live music to the cute café we may have overlooked, their suggestions made a real difference to our stay.

Individually-designed rooms and suites offer bling from gold scatter cushions, pink hues in soft furnishings and colourful carpets with neutral walls adorned with modern paintings. The vibe is quirky-meets-homely-meets-decadent.

The GEO restaurant menu is impressive. We liked the local suppliers detailed in the menu with dishes such as monkfish wellington with woodruff mayo and Irish Angus beef fillet - a must when in Ireland. The lounges and cocktail bars cannot be missed either.

GEO: formal dining, locally sourced produce. All-day dining, open daily.

Signature Lounges: three casual dining venues, light bites and sharing boards. Open daily for lunch, dinner and afternoon tea.
