OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Located on Laugavegur in downtown Reykjavík, literally everything is within walking distance, from bakeries bursting with delicious artisan goods and bookshops that also sell seamless Nordic-designed objet d'art, to shops selling authentic Icelandic knitwear, handmade perfumeries, art galleries and even a cat café; this is the ideal place to be for a city break. The cinnamon roll and coffee from Brauð & Co are worth waking up early for; get there for 7.30am and find a spot to enjoy it warm.

By plane: direct flights from London to Reykjavík take 3 hours. The hotel is a 45-minute drive from the airport. Book flights to Reykjavík.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

The large and welcoming open-plan reception area, kitted out with long, comfortable sofas, sets the scene of this contemporary hotel, with the lobby leading onto the popular bar. The hotel design is a calm canvas of cool greys, white walls, hints of black lacquer, mat metallic lamps and centrepiece bulbous glass ceiling lamps, as well as chandeliers.

THE FACILITIES

The staff gave us many insider tips on where to find the best cafés and restaurants, along with directions, and offering to print out a personalised map. Being new to the area, this local advice was welcomed and made all the difference.

There isn't the option of lunch or dinner at the hotel, only a breakfast buffet; while offerings of fruit, decent sourdough bread and condiments are good, there isn't a menu. There's a bar/lounge for drinks. The café opposite, owned by the same company, serves incredible coffee and baked goods, though it is separate and chargeable.
