OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The fastest route from the airport to the Parador de La Palma takes eight minutes following the LP-5. Take the LP-2 to reach the capital Santa Cruz de La Palma in ten minutes. Once arrived, switch to Shanks' Pony to explore a network of hiking trails. Go up the country to Casa Osmunda where they pair sticks of aubergine grown in their vegetable garden with palm honey.

By plane: flights from London take around 9 hours with a stop in Barcelona; flights from Birmingham take around 11 hours with a stop in Tenerife. The hotel is a 1o-minute taxi ride from the airport. Free parking is available on-site. Book flights to La Palma.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Opened at the tail end of the 1990s, the Parador de La Palma features a neo-classical Canarian design. The reception leads to an open and leafy patio. Architect Jesús Valverde incorporated a reproduction of La Gomera's famous Conde de la Torre to make the project feel even more insular.

THE FACILITIES

You feel looked after by the immaculately-attired staff. The gardens are extensive and you can walk along the well-tended paths, admiring the impressive foliage of verdant trees; it's the perfect place to collect yourself, particularly during the weekly Taichi sessions with Doctor Su. There is also a gym and padel court.

Key amenities: ensuite with toiletries, TV, desk, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

Get your five-a-day out of the way early at a buffet breakfast with fruit and veg sourced from the hotel's organic garden. Paradores offer national classics alongside regional specialities. The wine list includes island vintages like Tamanca and Tendal whites, Teneguía roses, and Vína Etna and Tamanca reds.

The restaurant: traditional Spanish and Canary Islands cuisine, local produce, kitchen garden, local wines.
