OUR REVIEW

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

More or less equidistant from the heart of Arrecife and the island's airport, Hotel Villa VIK enjoys a particularly prominent position in Lanzarote. A well-lit promenade complete with an adjacent cycle path allows you to reach the capital, nearby Playa Honda and major resort Puerto del Carmen without too much trouble. Playa Honda's popular Restaurante Grill Tere doesn't accept advance reservations but does offer plenty of tasty tapas options to share.

By plane: flights from London, Birmingham and Manchester to Lanzarote take around 4 hours 30 mins. The hotel is a five-minute drive from Lanzarote airport. Free parking on-site. Book flights to Lanzarote.

THE LOOK AND FEEL

Converted into holiday accommodation in 2003, Hotel Villa VIK retains the look and feel of a grand family residence. The building is designed along hacienda lines although this was a bijou estate. Playa del Cable is a quiet neighbourhood and you barely notice how close it is to the airport.

THE FACILITIES

Service is of the discreet variety. Waiting staff will hold back for a conversation to finish before making their way to a table. A heated pool in a garden of Jacarandas and palms is the main facility. Although there's no spa, there's a therapist on hand offering massages by appointment.

BED AND BATH

There's nothing uniform about the Standard Doubles, apart from their 35 square metres of size, as they are individually decorated and receive round-the-clock room service. Deluxe and superior doubles add a jacuzzi on the balcony. There is a hot tub external to the suites too, in a more secluded space.

Room types: Standard Double, Deluxe Double, Superior Double with Jacuzzi, Suite with Jacuzzi

Key amenities: ensuite bathroom, terrace or balcony, hairdryer, TV, air con, free Wi-Fi

FOOD AND DRINK

There are bed and breakfast and half board packages available. The Terrace Bar offers the opportunity to sup artisan cocktails by the pool. The restaurant offers an á la carte menu although there is a continental buffet to complement this at breakfast time. Paul, the British chef, uses local, market-fresh produce to create internationally-inspired dishes.

Restaurant: creative, seasonal menu that changes daily. Buffet breakfast and à la carte options for lunch and dinner. Open daily.

Bar: poolside artisan cocktails.
