Ukip reported a made-up town for impersonating them on Twitter

Recently Ukip has hit back over what it claims are a series of fake branch accounts set up on Twitter aimed at discrediting the party.

Ukip MEP David Coburn thought he had spotted a likely impersonator in @Trumpton_Ukip, urging his followers to report and block them.

But as anyone who was alive in the 1960s, or has at least watched one Channel 4 best kids TV programmes ever list show, knows, Trumpton is the setting for and name of a stop-motion children's television show.

To be fair to Mr Coburn, however, the Trumpton branch of Ukip was very convincing.

Ah, the 1960s...
