Tomorrowland festival still scheduled to go ahead despite stage fire, says organiser
Tomorrowland organisers issue statement on festival’s future after fire
- A massive fire on Wednesday (16 July) destroyed the main stage of the Tomorrowland music festival in Boom, Belgium, just two days before the event was set to begin.
- The spectacular main stage, which took two years to construct, was engulfed in flames, with black smoke spreading to nearby woodland, prompting residents to close windows and doors.
- Despite the significant damage, festival spokesperson Debby Wilmsen confirmed the event will proceed as planned from Friday (18 July), albeit without the main stage.
- Wilmsen emphasised that safety remains the top priority, stating organisers will comply with authorities' instructions if the site is deemed unsafe for the tens of thousands of expected visitors.
- No members of the public were present during the fire, but approximately 1,000 staff were on site, and there were no reported injuries.
