New Banksy artwork outside High Court covered up within hours of appearing
A new Banksy mural, depicting a judge striking a protester with a gavel, appeared on the wall of London’s Royal Courts of Justice.
The artwork, authenticated by Banksy on Instagram, was swiftly covered up and subsequently erased from the historic building on Wednesday.
Court administrators ordered its removal, stating the 143-year-old Gothic revival-style building must maintain its original character.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating a complaint that the artwork constitutes criminal damage.
Some activists interpreted the piece as a commentary on the UK government’s ban on Palestine Action, a group whose appeals have been heard at the Royal Courts of Justice.
