Trump talks up relationship with Kim Jong Un: ‘I understand him’
Trump wants Kim Jong Un meeting later this year to build on 'great relationship'
US President Donald Trump has expressed his hope to meet North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un later this year, citing their "great relationship".
Speaking during an Oval Office meeting with South Korea's new president Lee Jae Myung on Monday, Trump recounted a 2019 trip to the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ).
Trump said he "felt safe" at the DMZ due to his close relationship with Kim, despite the presence of rifles.
He praised North Korea as a country with "tremendous potential" and mentioned spending "a lot of free time" talking with Kim.
