Jacob Jenkins brandished an imitation firearm at a group of teenagers in a Rhondda McDonald's after revealing a bulletproof vest.
After the teenagers reported the incident, Jenkins later pointed the weapon at a police officer on a street before fleeing.
The 29-year-old, from Rhydyfelin, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, pleaded guilty to several charges, including possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Jenkins was sentenced to four years and one month in prison, with an additional three-year extended period.
