Nicolas Sarkozy jailed over Libyan dictator funding
Sarkozy arrives at Paris court ahead of verdict over alleged illegal financing
Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been found guilty of criminal conspiracy by a Paris court and sentenced to five years in prison.
The conviction relates to accusations that Sarkozy received illegal campaign funds from the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi for his 2007 presidential campaign.
He was acquitted of other charges, including receiving stolen goods, embezzlement of public funds, and passive corruption.
Sarkozy, who was president of France from 2007 to 2012, had always denied the charges and dismissed the allegations as politically motivated.
He has previously been convicted of corruption and influence peddling and illegal campaign financing in separate cases.
