Met makes 100 arrests ahead of Notting Hill Carnival in bid to deter trouble
Notting Hill Carnival, Europe's largest street party, commenced its annual summer bank holiday celebrations in West London.
The festivities began on Sunday with the J'ouvert celebration, involving paint and coloured powder, as well as Children's Day.
The main event is scheduled for Monday, with approximately one million people expected to attend, enjoying vibrant displays of colour, costumes, dancing, and music.
Around 7,000 Metropolitan Police officers are on duty for the event, utilising live facial recognition technology and installing screening arches at entry points.
Stop-and-search powers will be employed at these arches to prevent weapons, as the annual celebration marks over 50 years of existence.
