Protesters clash with police as government moves to ban Palestine Action

Protesters clash with police during Palestine Action rally after PM announces group to be ‘banned’
  • Protesters clashed with Metropolitan Police in Trafalgar Square, London, during a demonstration in solidarity with Palestine Action on Monday.
  • The protest occurred after Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced plans to ban Palestine Action under anti-terrorism laws, following their vandalism of two planes at an RAF base on Friday, 20 June.
  • Demonstrators, some wearing face coverings and waving Palestine flags, chanted “shame on you” during confrontations with officers.
  • Police reported that 13 arrests were made at the protest, which was moved to Trafalgar Square after Palestine Action was banned from protesting outside parliament on Sunday.

This article was amended on 26 June 2025. The headline previously stated that the government had banned Palestine Action, but this was inaccurate. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper had said she intended to proscribe the group, but this has to be ratified by Parliament.
