Tourists accused of ignoring warning signs before bridge collapse

  • A 33-year-old iron bridge has collapsed over the Indrayani River in Pune, India, resulting in at least four deaths and numerous injuries.
  • The collapse occurred around 3.30pm local time on Sunday, with about 125 tourists gathered on the bridge.
  • Rescue teams transported over 50 injured people to hospitals, while two national disaster relief force teams were deployed to the site.
  • The bridge, which connected two villages, reportedly had a warning sign indicating it was "unfit for travel", but tourists allegedly ignored it.
  • The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs500,000 (approximately £4,285) for each of the victims' families.
