Broadcaster Selina Scott ‘fearful’ for those walking streets of London after mugging

Veteran broadcaster Selina Scott, 74, was mugged by a gang near Waterstones on Piccadilly in London's West End, where she was hit on the leg and had her purse stolen.
Ms. Scott expressed feeling “humiliated and angry,” claiming London's streets are unsafe and that she was “fearful for those who... feel that they can walk the streets of London safely, because... they can’t”.
She noted the absence of police officers in the area following the incident, and was unable to report the crime immediately due to the closure of the nearby West End Central police station.
Police also failed to attend a planned appointment at her home, with Ms. Scott questioning why police resources are allocated to marches but not to patrolling central London.
Metropolitan Police chief Sir Mark Rowley issued an apology to Ms. Scott, admitting the force provided inadequate service and acknowledging her distressing experience.
