A British superyacht that tragically sank off Sicily last August, claiming seven lives including UK tech magnate Mike Lynch, is scheduled for recovery this weekend.
The complex salvage operation involved removing the yacht's 72-meter mast, which allowed the hull to be brought to a nearly upright position and accelerated the recovery schedule.
TMC Marine, the salvage company, plans to lift the vessel from a depth of 50 meters using a powerful maritime floating crane barge on Saturday, with the aim of bringing it to port by Monday.
British investigators reported that the yacht was knocked over by "extreme wind" exceeding 70 knots, capsizing it to a 90-degree angle in under 15 seconds on August 19.
Mike Lynch, 59, and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among the seven fatalities, while fifteen people survived the incident.
