  • South Korea's Constitutional Court has upheld President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment, removing him from office.
  • The impeachment stemmed from Mr Yoon's decision to impose martial law in December 2024, a move that plunged the country into political turmoil.
  • In a unanimous verdict, the court ruled that Mr Yoon’s decision was unjustified as the country was not in a “national emergency” at the time.
  • Snap elections will be held within 60 days to choose Mr Yoon's successor.
  • Acting President Han Duck-soo will lead the country until the elections.
