Tree collapse that killed girl, 7, investigated by police

A seven-year-old girl died and a six-year-old girl was left critically injured after a tree fell in Chalkwell Park, Southend-on-Sea, on Saturday afternoon.
Three other children also sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred shortly before 3pm.
Dozens of eyewitnesses were present, with approximately 40-50 people attempting to lift the fallen tree to rescue the trapped children.
Essex Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the tree, which was reportedly held up by metal poles.
The park remains partially cordoned off for the investigation, and flowers are being laid by members of the public.
