The big Trump announcement that wasn’t what people were expecting

President Trump was set to announce the relocation of US Space Command headquarters from Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama, concluding a period of political debate.
In January 2021, the Air Force had identified Huntsville, Alabama, as a permanent location for the command, a decision President Trump was poised to confirm.
However, in 2023, the Biden administration reversed this course, opting to keep the headquarters in Colorado Springs, citing concerns about disrupting military readiness.
This reversal prompted allegations of political favoritism from Republicans, particularly as Senator Tommy Tuberville was blocking military promotions over unrelated policy disputes.
An April 2025 review by the Defense Department inspector general could not determine the reasons for the Biden administration's choice, citing a lack of access to senior defense officials.
