  • Typhoon Ragasa, the most powerful storm recorded this year with peak winds of 270km/h, first made landfall in the Philippines on Monday.
  • The superstorm subsequently travelled across the South China Sea, battering Hong Kong, Macau, and southern China with heavy winds and rain.
  • At least 17 people were killed in Taiwan and 10 in the Philippines, with dozens more reported missing due to the typhoon.
