Gibraltar to have ‘fluid’ border with Spain in breakthrough deal
Gibraltar residents in limbo after Brexit
The UK and the EU have agreed to a post-Brexit deal for a ‘fluid’ border between Gibraltar and Spain, eliminating checks for people crossing the border.
Talks on the matter have been ongoing since Britain left the EU in 2020.
‘Eurostar’ style dual border control checks will be implemented at Gibraltar airport, managed by Gibraltar and Spanish officials.
Foreign Secretary David Lammy hailed the agreement as a “breakthrough”.
The deal aims to resolve decades of border issues while safeguarding the integrity of Schengen and the single market, according to EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
