Thousands forced to evacuate in Southern California as fast-moving fire spreads
Southern Californian fire grew to 1,050 acres in less than three hours
- A fast-moving brush fire, named the Canyon Fire, ignited north of Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon, rapidly growing to over 1,050 acres within three hours.
- The fire remained zero per cent contained late Thursday afternoon and was actively spreading east, posing a significant threat.
- Thousands of residents in Southern California were ordered to evacuate their homes, including 4,200 in LA County, with an additional 12,500 under evacuation warning.
- Officials described the blaze as a "very dynamic situation" driven by hot, dry weather, steep terrain, and dry fuel, threatening power lines and communities like Hasley Canyon.
- Over 250 firefighters are on the ground, coordinating with helicopters and other air support, to combat the fire, which has now crossed into LA County.
