Cyclist Chris Froome has sustained a collapsed lung, five broken ribs, and a fractured lumbar vertebrae following a serious training crash in Saint-Raphael, France.
His team, Israel-Premier Tech, confirmed that no other cyclists or vehicles were involved in the incident.
Froome is undergoing surgery for his injuries and is now stable.
The 40-year-old is likely to be ruled out for the rest of the season, and the crash could potentially mark the end of his career.
This is Froome's second major crash since 2019, following a previous incident that also caused significant injuries, despite his illustrious career as a four-time Tour de France champion.
