Nepalese PM steps down after 19 die in fiery clashes
Tear gas fired as Nepal protesters clash with police after government blocks social media
Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned after at least 19 people died in clashes between security forces and anti-corruption protesters.
The protests in Kathmandu were sparked by a government social media ban, perceived as an attempt to suppress online anti-nepotism movements.
Demonstrators defied an indefinite curfew, clashing with police, setting fire to politicians' homes, and causing the complete closure of Tribhuvan International Airport.
The unrest is rooted in deep-seated public frustration over high unemployment, government mismanagement, and widespread corruption and nepotism.
Despite the social media ban being lifted and the prime minister's resignation, protesters have vowed to continue their demonstrations.
