Flight of the Conchords fans have been begging for a new season or a film for years, and now they might finally be getting the latter.

While promoting his new movie People Places Things, Clement was asked by Indiewire: “Do you feel like you're going to be asked about a ‘Flight of the Conchords’ movie every day for the rest of your life?”

But instead of despairing about the constant inquisition, Clement had some good news.

“We have actually started writing one,” he said.

“But who knows if it will ever be made, we've written some notes for some different film ideas.

“We're not down to the stage where we're going, ‘The film is going to be like this,’ it could be this, this, this, this, this.”

Despite its popularity and enduring cult status, Flight of the Conchords, which centred on two shepherds-turned-musicians struggling to make it in New York, only ran for two seasons on HBO.

Clement is currently working on an as yet untitled new series for the network, which will be produced by Girls’ Judd Apatow.

"There's one about a dance competition and there's one about time travel. Each one of them is set in different time or has a different subtext,” he told Fairfax Media.

“It’s like The Twilight Zone, but comedy...there is a theme so far in that all of the ones we've written are about time."
